There's little opportunity to evade the Utah heat throughout the summer. While we reminisce on bubbling stews on the stove, warm comfort foods, and last year's snow showers, we're still trying to figure out how to leave our air conditioning for some grub this summer.
Nevertheless, I've rounded up five of my favorite frozen treats around Salt Lake City to support our small businesses and cool off at the same time. Scroll down for all the deets!

Shaved ice from Icy Mountain
No longer do you need to chase after an ice cream truck for a crummy frozen snow cone. Nestled at 2272 E 3300 S in Millcreek is that of Icy Mountain and its latest storefront. Additionally, they have their icy treats on wheels via a food truck, which you can track online. Cool off with spoonfuls of shaved ice doused in cotton candy, grape, and blue raspberry, to name just a few. Pro tip: order your shaved ice "boujee" for a scoop of ice cream on the bottom, and whipped cream, sweetened condensed milk, and fruit or candy dolloped on top for just a couple dollars extra.

A shake from Iceberg Drive-Inn
The very first Iceberg Drive-Inn launched in 1960 on the corner of 900 East and 3900 South in Salt Lake City, Utah. Regularly sporting lines of eager noshers, this retro eatery dons burgers, gargantuan onion rings, and iceberg-sized shakes. Don't be fooled by the "mini" size—it was bigger than my head! I'm a die hard fan of the almond joy shake, but there's nearly 50 flavors to suit your fancy.
A composed cone from Normal Ice Cream
You know them, you love them. As soon as I moved to Salt Lake City, I knew I had to nab some of this hailed soft serve ice cream. Perhaps it was my first cone of buttered popcorn soft serve, or the tiramisu composed cone sporting actual bits of cake and a mascarpone drizzle. Nevertheless, you can swing by their storefront or truck on wheels downtown for their latest creations, or just a scoop of toasted mallow.

A slushy from Frazil
Some of my best childhood memories come from swinging by a gas station to nab a slushy after a long day boating or floating on the lake. With the Utah heat, I find myself swinging by one of the many Frazil—named after that middle phase of icy waters between liquid and solid—locations for a slushy layered with lemon ice, blue razzmatazz, and tiger's blood on a near daily basis. Find their location nearest you here.
Some iced rehydration from Millcreek Nutrition
I find it really hard to stay hydrated and energetic through the heat of summer. It's tougher to get your exercise outside—unless, that is, you're willing to get up closer to 7 a.m.—and tougher to stay hydrated no matter how many water bottles are collecting on your nightstand. Thus, I've fallen in love with Millcreek Nutrition. A place for rainbowed and glittering power juices and shakes, you can choose your own combo of energy, beauty (collagen,) and protein if you're hitting that mid-afternoon crash. The staff is super friendly, walking you through exactly what combo is best for you based o your goals (post-workout protein, afternoon energy, focus, etc.) They're super great health-wise, but let's be honest, they're super photogenic insta-wise too :)
